Chuson-ji Temple in Hiraizumi Town, Iwate Prefecture, is the Tohoku main temple of the Tendai sect. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2011, and is visited by many tourists from Japan and overseas. In particular, there are many people who visit the “Konshikido”, which has a golden Buddha statue.
The origin of Chuson-ji
It was developed from Kodaijuin, which was built by the monk Ennin in 850, and was rebuilt by Kiyohira Fujiwara in 1105. Although it prospered as the center of Hiraizumi culture, everything except the Golden Hall and Kyozo was destroyed by the destruction and fire of Mr. Fujiwara Oshu; but it was rebuilt after that and is still in use today.
